ESPN the Magazine Academic All- America Women's At-Large Team
June 17, 2005

"The award couldn't go to a more deserving student-athlete," Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "Cassandra has dedicated herself to diving and the classroom and continues to do so as she trains for the 2008 Olympics and studies in graduate school. She has brought honor and distinction to Indiana University and the IU diving team, and I am proud of her as a student, diver and human being."

Announced May 26, 2005 that I earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honors. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America from district V were chose from college athletes in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian providences of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify for this award the student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, have a minimum grade-point average of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team. I will appear on the national ballot for the Academic All-American Women's At-Large Team, which will be announced June 17, 2005.

"Being the all-time leading scorer in the history of the first-year Charlotte Bobcats is impressive. Being the all-time leading scorer in the history of the storied Los Angeles Lakers is the stuff of legend. Cassandra Cardinell achieved the diving equivalent of both, as she dominated the 10-meter platform event during the Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships by tallying 558.65 points. Not only did Cardinell eclipse former teammate Sara Hildebrand's conference record of 544.35, she obliterated University of Tennessee standout Kylee Wells' pool record of 470.10 set in 2000. To hold these records in any conference and at any pool is remarkable.
To hold these records in the Big Ten and at Indiana University places Cardinell on the short list of the best divers in the world."
